Silver is the often-overlooked precious metal — not as flashy as gold, but with a deep, liquid market. South Florida has a steady stream of estate clean-outs, inheritance lots, and collector portfolios coming through our doors. Here’s how silver actually gets priced when you walk in.

The Silver Categories We See Daily

American Silver Eagles (1 oz, .999 fine). Spot plus a small premium per coin. Tubes of 20 or rolls trade efficiently. Lower-mintage years (1996, key dates) get a numismatic premium.

Bullion bars. Engelhard, JM, Royal Canadian Mint, PAMP, Perth Mint — anything stamped with weight and purity. 10 oz and 100 oz bars are standard. We pay close to spot on recognizable bars.

Junk silver. Pre-1965 US dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars are 90% silver. Walking Liberty halves, Mercury dimes, Washington quarters, Franklin halves. Priced by weight × silver content × spot.

Morgan and Peace dollars. Some are bullion (priced for silver content), some are collector pieces (key dates like 1893-S, 1889-CC, 1895 Proof — significant premium). We price each on its own merits.

Sterling silver flatware and hollowware. Marked “STERLING” or “925.” Weighed and priced for silver content. Some patterns from major makers (Tiffany, Gorham, Reed & Barton) carry collector premiums.

Foreign silver. Canadian dimes/quarters (pre-1968 80% silver), Mexican Libertads, British pre-1947 silver, Swiss francs. We know the silver content and the markets.

What to Bring

Everything in one bag or box is fine. We sort on the counter. Don’t clean coins (it usually destroys numismatic value). Bring rolls, loose, single pieces — doesn’t matter. Photo ID required by Florida pawn law.

How We Price

For bullion (Eagles, bars, junk silver), the formula is straightforward: weight × purity × spot price minus a refining/handling margin. We’ll show you the math on a piece of paper. For numismatic coins, we look up the grade, type, and recent comps. If a Morgan looks like a key date, we set it aside for a more careful look.
